Dear Blue Heron Parents and Guardians,

Since we are halfway through the quarter, teachers will be sending you a snapshot of your student's current grades in Math, Social Studies, Science, ELA, and PE on Monday by the end of the day. This is not a final grade, it is based on the work to date. The 1st quarter ends on November 6, so there is still plenty of time to complete work and improve grades. We are here to support your student to make as much progress as possible between now and then.

If your student has a D or F as their current grade, please know:

  • In most cases, this is due to missing work and assignments, or not turning in completed work
  • Missing and low score assignments can be completed or revised and resubmitted to improve the overall grade
  • On the quarter report cards, grades will be reported as A, B, C, D and I for Incomplete.

We know keeping up with the demands of remote learning is especially challenging, and we encourage you and your student to reach out for help, when you are not sure what to do. Here are some ways to get support:

1. Attend all your scheduled classes, whether in person or via zoom.

2. When at home, students can access live teacher help during the online check-in time with zoom links found in the “need support” section on each teacher’s playlist.

3. If your questions or concerns are not cleared up in class or during online check-in times, please email the subject teacher directly.  Our email format is first initial followed by last name for example Principal Campbell's email is

4. Melinda Pongrey, our math specialist, will be setting up individual support times, when students are at home. Please contact her, if you would like to schedule a support time for your student.

5. Becca Gimlett, our reading specialist, will be providing intensive reading support groups to students.

6. Kirsten Bledsoe, our school counselor, can support students, when stress or social/emotional concerns are getting in the way of learning. She can also help to navigate school resources.

We appreciate your continued partnership in the education of the students at Blue Heron.
