At Blue Heron, we consider opportunities outside of the classroom a crucial part of our students' educational experience. A large part of this is our athletic offerings, which include volleyball, cross country, football, boys and girls basketball, wrestling, and track & field. While all sports are open to students in 7th and 8th grades, we also make every attempt to include 6th grade students when possible.

Sports Available to 6th Graders

The two sports 6th graders may participate in, regardless of how many 7th and 8th graders sign up to play, are cross country and wrestling. Cross country takes place in the fall and students practice at Blue Heron. Wrestling is offered late winter and students practice at Port Townsend High School.

Sports That May Be Open to 6th Graders

Some sports will only be open to 6th graders if space is available. These include volleyball (fall), boys basketball (early winter), girls basketball (mid minter), and track & field (spring). We will work to identify whether each sport will be available for 6th grade participation as early as possible. Once this is determined, we will communicate using all of our normal methods (School Messenger, Website, etc.).

Sports Open Only to 7th and 8th Graders

Due to its contact nature, Football is only offered to students in 7th and 8th grades.
